unable to detect wireless adapter and connect to internet

Postby emy on Wed Nov 20, 2013 4:29 am

Hello everyone. i am a newbie to linux. I just recently built my desktop and wanted to try out linux. I read couple of sites and decided to go with mint. I installed linux mint 15 on my SSD drive but it fails to detect my wireless adapter. I bought a TP-Link WDN4800 but mint cannot recognize the adapter, thus i don't have a wireless connection. if someone can assist me i will appreciate it. Thanks.

Don't get pushy here. Pushing others won't help you getting a solution.

It looks like you have this device. Download the driver from here.

Then you need to do this after the download:
- unzip the .tar.gz file (right click the file and choose unzip here)
- go to the folder e1000e-2.5.4.tar
- then unzip the .tar file (right click the file and choose unzip here)
- go to the folder e1000e-2.5.4
- open the README file. In this file you will find installation instructions.

@ nomko,

Hello when i looked online and decided to find a command line to check if i do have the driver you sent to me couple of hours ago. i wrote the command line in the terminal:

/sbin/modinfo e1000e | grep author

author: intel corporation, <linux.ncis@intel.com>

it seems i do not need to download the driver as my kernel already has this module.

Any assistance would be great thanks.
