Problem turning on wifi - new install [solved]

Postby ogandou on Wed Dec 11, 2013 12:12 am

Hello,

Just did a clean install of Linux Mint 16 Cinnamon 32 bits (first time Linux user so please go easy on me, thanks! :D ). I have no problems with my wired connection, but for some reasons my wifi card does not show up anywhere. I'm just used to **cough** Windows **cough** where at least a basic driver is included by defaul and the wireless works out of the box. Apparently not the case here, at least not for old hardware (my laptop is a Dell Inspiron 640m). I've found a few clues regarding what to do, but because the one I tried resulted in me losing ethernet as well and reinstalling, I'd like to get some more solid advice before I do anything else. I've ran mintwifi, results are below. Thanks in advance for the help!

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

OK, solved it. Went into software manager, did a search for "B43", installed B43-fw-cutter and then the drivers installer, rebooted, turned on the wireless and voila. Woot!
