Alcatel al870 new Dodo Mobile Broadband modem is not recogn

Postby munchingmike on Sun May 04, 2014 6:45 am

On linux mint maya. I used to run Dodo wireless broadband using the Huawei E160 dongle . Setup was straightforward and it worked 'out of the box'. After it was damaged I bought a new one but this dongle is a Alcatel AL870. My sytem does not even see it connected. I deleted the old settings and reinstalled , 'purged' network settings following another thread here. but still no change. Alcatel has no linux drivers after a google search I can not find any. The dongle has preloaded software for windows on it so I assume I must be lacking the correct drivers for linux?
Any help appreciated thankyou

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

try updating the Modeswitch:
http://www.zoringroup.com/forum/viewtop ... f=6&t=4077

sometimes, this thing, which switches the device, from virtual cd mode, to 3G modem, fails to work.

it is also possible, those 3g devices, will only work in the World of Windows.
- had good success will this idea, when switching from a E160x to a E3131 modem.

this issue, still seems to be prevalent, even in the later Ubuntu / Mint releases,
although it's not quite the original switching problem.

Hi Mike; Pierre has given you guidance on usb_modeswitch;

if you plug the Dodo dongle into a usb port and type
lsusb
.........can you copy and paste back the ID of the device; (we can see if it is set up already in the usb_modeswitch data file)

(looks the ID will be 1bbb:zzzz where zzzz is the unique ID of the device and 1bbb: is the ID for Alcatel ............if you can supply what zzzz is please ..........
