wireless USB adapter

Post by Hulk »

Hello all.

I'm leaving Windows XP land and trying out Linux Mint Cinnamon. I have loaded and made all the recent updates. I am having a real hard time getting my wireless USB adapter to work. It's a Panda wireless adapter and it's supposed to be "plug and play". However, it's not working. When I click on the wireless setting's it shows up, however, I can't turn it on. I thought it may be a driver problem, however, when I try using the driver manager, a blank grey screen comes up without any drivers listed. I've been working on this for days, but I can't get it to work. Will someone help me? Thanks.

The Panda adapters are plug-n-play for Windows, partially so for Mac and perhaps so for Fedora.

You could try for assistance from the Panda website.

You may be better off getting something that works in LInux - saves pulling your hair out:

Thanks for the reply Kyphi. I will try contacting the company for tech support. I bought the Panda wireless USB adapter because it said it was compatible with Linux. I'm a newbie and not very familiar with Linux, so I was hoping someone could help me trouble shoot. Perhaps it's a driver issue or a simple setting. Here is the output for my wireless settings:

Thanks PatH57.

The internal wireless card is broken, so I have just been using a wirless usb adapter in the windows xp environment which has worked fine. To answer your second question, when I click on the network applet I can see the wireless USB device, but it says its "unavailable" and will not allow me to enable it.

Re: wireless USB adapter

I fixed it. I took apart the computer and found out I had a defecive wireless switch on the mother board. A piece of plastic was not engaging the switch. So my internal wireless card was not broken, but a 3 cent piece of plastic was! It's now working fine and now I have a useless wireless USB adapter. Thank you very much for your time PatH57...I really do appreciate it.
