Wireless is very slow and intermtant Mint 17.1 <Solved>

I am currently running 17.1 64bit. I have found that Mint is great with old hardware, but so far not so much for new. Just getting the ethernet to work was a struggle and sticking to just wired internet isn't really an option. So here's what's going on: built in wifi is supposed to be supported in the kernel. When I use it, it will connect to wifi, but it is so slow that the connection times out on every website I try to load. I get the error message not connected to internet. I tried several common fixes, but nothing has worked. I updated the kernel to 3.16, but all that did was make the ethernet unusable so I reverted back. After trying everything I could find with no success, I decided to go with a usb adapter. The adapter I could get is broadcom so I got the driver using wine and the install disk and set it up with ndiswrapper. That one just connects and disconnects constanlty and if I do manage to get a stable connection, it is the same as the built in, too slow to be usable.

What is the built in wifi?

The driver installed with ndiswrapper is not for the built in. It is for the external and it is the driver that came with the card.
I will try the things at the link you posted. It is possible that it's own driver doesn't work.

I'm guessing that's not right. How should I proceed as that step failing is not mentioned in the thred?

I did everything mentioned by the thred, and ndiswrapper claims the driver is installed ,but I still have the same problem. It claims that it has wifi, but when I try to load anything it times out and it is constantly connecting and disconnecting.

We could try this to get the internal working

A few other things that usually help wifi in Linux, use a fixed channel on the router, use WPA2-AES(CCMP) encryption, no WEP or TKIP(check using iwlist scan) and in IPv6 settings- try ignore

It worked for about two minutes and now its back to being too slow to work.
I set my router to broadcast on one channel and to WPA2 using AES but when I run iwlist scan here are the results

It's really frustrating. It was working perfectly for just long enough to convince me that it was working and then when I go to report that and change the thred to solved, it stops working again. It's unlike anything I have ever encountered before.

It worked for about two minutes and now its back to being too slow to work.
I set my router to broadcast on one channel and to WPA2 using AES but when I run iwlist scan here are the results

Lies! It was working beutifully for the better part of an hour then I put the computer in suspend. After that it worked for a couple minutes and then right back to the same too slow to load anything it's been doing. Could the suspend maybe have messed it up? This computer has an ssd if that makes a difference.

And now after waking it up from another suspend, it's working again. This is really strange. I wish it would make up its mind.
