Dell e4310 - integrated UMTS (SIM) slot - not recognized

Post by theeyan »

Hi to all,

I installed Mint 17.1 MATE on my e4310. Can connect wia Ethernet. Can connect via WiFi. Can connect via a dedicated USB 3G dongle, but when I place my SIM card in the integrated slot, nothing happens. The OS doesn't recognize it at all.

On the other hand when I place the SIM in the 3G dongle, the OS recognizes it right away and the connection is flawless.

Is there any way I can "wake up" this integrated hardware? Make it work?

Bump on this one.

Is there some kind of "sudo probe" command I could try? Any ideas? Anybody?

Post the results from the next command in terminal, it might give us something to search for

Code: Select all

Unfortunately the only thing I can find is http://natisbad.org/E4300/ and it looks like some kernel mods are needed

I guess that means I won't be able to use this function? Or is kernel modding something I could do?

Should look at the list in

Code: Select all

lspci -nnk
to see if it is there first. The issue with modifying the kernel is that the page I found is a bit old

I would download LM13 and see if the results are different as there may have been regressions in the newer kernels regarding your device

Hmm. Not sure I have the luxury for such an operation having in mind that I only have some 9GB of space left on my SSD, and that I did a lot od tweaks to set everything up the way I want it.

It's easier to just drop the integration and use a regular dongle. The laptop has no issues with that. Finds a connection right away. Then again... This kind of hardware should be pretty basic. It is found in a lot of business laptops...
