Not holding Wireless Connection Mint 7

Post by EdQld »

Running Mint 7 as dual boot on HP Touchsmart all-in-one PC, but it is intermittently losing wireless connection (usually after being on for a while), can't get it back without a reboot :(

Wife's PC running Mint 6 has no such problem, so Modem/Router must be OK

Anyone else had this experience, solutions?

Thanks :D

In the Terminal
sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart
--can't get it going ??

I have a similar problem in my desktop's PCI wireless card (a Belkin f5d-7000v7 or some such). I fixed it by identifying the manufacturer of the actual wireless chip in the card and installing their driver for windows through ndiswrapper (using Belkin's driver just did the same thing as the default one that Mint used). That was when I was running Felicia. When I installed Gloria, I didn't bother with the issue, but rather have my desktop mooch off of my laptop's wireless connection (my laptop is always home when I am). If it's like my problem, there is a better temporary fix than restarting, though: Just right click on the network manager icon down in the tray, uncheck "enable wireless", and recheck it. After a few seconds, you should be good to go.

Thanks for your inputs guys, much appreciated :)

Only just got back to check out the responses (did not get an email saying someone had responded)

Anyway, yesterday I bit the bullet and did a fresh upgrade to Mint9 to solve mail program issues and hopefully this will also fix the dropped connection issue

Thanks again
