We have all been through this at onetime or another, so take a deep breath, let it all out and breathe. Information is vital. Your computer and it's configuration first of all. Then we need to know which version of Linux Mint you installed.

Unfortunately, what followed your question was a paragraph-long rant about networking, with a slight indication that you are apparently experiencing some problem with it on your system.

What you didn't do, however, is ask us the question!

PS: Please don't make the mistake of asking the question like this: "My wireless networking isn't working! What's wrong???" ...because asking an over-simplified generic question will yield nothing more than an over-simplified generic answer.

PPS: ...so, instead, tell us *exactly* what's happening (and, optionally, what you think should be happening). Tell us what kind of wireless card you have, what driver is it using, etc. Then, perhaps, someone here can help. Posting paragraphs, such as yours quoted above, rarely gets you more than a message such as mine, asking for more (or any, really!) information about the problem. ...and sometimes, those messages are not as kindly worded and explained as mine.

PPPS: fwiw (and this doesn't necessarily help you), my wireless card (internal to my laptop) worked immediately upon booting up the Mint LiveCD, with no futzing required. :shrug: your mileage may vary...

When it works, just like any other OS, it is real simple: it works

When it doesn't work, it is also real simple: get it to work

SHOULD BE A SIMPLE QUESTION RIGHT? No, I have to come here a look through thousands of post to try and figure out how come I can't just frigin enter an ssid and a mac address and connect to the stupid internet. If your going to correct me make sure you correct anyone else using foul language or maybe I missed the list of acceptable foul language words. That said, what happens when you simply try left-clicking on the Network-manager applet? Unless i've missed something (not completely out of the question), I've seen no mention of what was actually tried, and what failed. Did you simply try left-clicking on the applet (by default, bottom-right, near the clock). Myself, I simply sdo this, and chose the network i wish to connect to, as it shows up when you do this. If not, then there is likely an issue with your hardware. But xcould you please clarify if you have done this, and if so, what happened? Cheers.

I was in such trouble. I could not set up my bluetooth internet, tried for 3 days. But my USB-EDGE modem was connected smoothly within few seconds.

Solution is simple. you have to install few packages. then try. If u are unable to connect to internet even for downloading packages, then download these in another computer > transfer them to your mint > install.

what are the packages u need to install? it depends on your modem type, ISP and configuration of your computer. Take help from this forum about name of the packages.

In my case, I had to install ''gnome-ppp'' and ''blue-man''. Then set up was so easy and graphical.
