replacing NetworkManager with Mandriva Net-Applet

Post by mdshaver »

Is there any easy way to replace the Gnome NetworkManager, used by the majority of Gnome distros, with Mandriva's Net-Applet. I have alway had better luck with Mandriva's wireless when using my Atheros AR9285 laptop card and my desktop's Belkin USB wifi card. With the Mandriva Net-Applet, IPV6 can be disabled with a simple click of a box. I've noticed a substantial increase in the consistency of video streaming compared to Ubuntu/LinuxMint, even when IPV6 is disabled in Firefox. Note: I know that PCLinuxOS also uses the Net-Applet but that is obviously because it is heavily based on Mandriva. Any thoughts?

Give wicd a try, I really like it and it works way better than gnome's network-manager.
