RTL8187 Not working.

Post by zukothoth »

I have had this problem before on Linux Mint 8, and now I have a little more progress. I have installed the driver that I need using ndiswrapper and it says hardware present, but still cannot figure out how to get connected to the internet on it. I have no problems at all in Windows. I have entered in IP address manually and tried automatic as well, and nothing is working. I have no security setup on the router either, is there a way I can get it to scan for a connection or do I have to set it up in the Network Connections menu?

Code: Select all

These forums, since day one, have been completely unhelpful and very unsatisfactory. I am very disappointed that just about everyone else has their questions answered and I am left hanging without even one single response. I have dug through thick and thin in these forums and on google, and tried my ass off to get this darn thing to work, and got no where.

Sometimes no one replies because they don't know the answer to your problem. I'm not a wireless guru, but I am now on a Gateway laptop with RTL8187. Are you on Mint 9 now? I don't need to use ndiswrapper on Mint 9. WIreless works perfectly now, but it was a pain on Mint 2 and Mint 7. (I never tried Mint 8.) The only driver that worked with ndiswrapper was the one for Win 98, and even after blacklisting anything I could and following every remedy offered, I had to open terminal after every boot-up and load ndiswrapper. (sudo modprobe ndiswrapper) Didn't bother me much because this was my wife's laptop and she ran XP. Only had MInt dual booting as a backup system. Hope this helps, and you find a solution.

Well, thank you for the reply. I am not using the RTL8187 anymore because my sister's kids broke it off in my USB port. I just purchased a D-link Rangebooster with Atheros 8200 chipset, hopefully I can get this to work "out of the box".

This was not solved, it is still open to someone. I just no longer have the RTL8187. I have purchased a new card, if you would have read my last reply.
