Won't connect to one network.

Post by theboomboomcars »

I have been having trouble connecting to my brother's wireless network. I can successfully connect to about half dozen other networks, mostly WPA2 encrypted, like his. I am using Mint 9, but the same problem existed in 7. I just installed Mint 9 on one of my brothers Laptops, and his won't connect to it either using Mint. Windows connects fine, and Mint is the only Linux distro I have tried to use. I don't think this is a hardware problem, because mine will connect to every other network I have tried without problem. I have an atheros ar5001, and my brother has a realtek 8192. My brother lives across the street from his Grandmother inlaw and her network reaches their house, and both linux computers will connect to her network, but the connection is unstable. Both networks are WPA2 encrypted.
The only thing that I can tell is different about the network that we can't connect to is that there is a space in the essid. I don't know if this will cause a problem or not, but it doesn't seem like it should.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

I'd try wicd instead of gnome network manager (http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=48139)
