In a PDF file on the disk it seems this uses the 3370 chipset? "Kernel 2.6x: Rt3370sta.ko"

I've extracted the .tar file to the HDD. It includes config.mk, Makefile, cp_module.sh, cp_util.sh, load.4, load.6, and the sub-directories MODULE, NETIF, UTIL.

Before a disaster attempting to install DropBox ( and a resulting reinstall of LM Fluxbox ), I had followed a tutorial for install that included ./configure, make, make install, that didn't seem to do anything at all. I had indeed downloaded the listed files to process the files.

I was hoping that the extracted files are the ones I needed. There is a Windows file as well, but I'd rather use the Linux drivers if possible. So where have I gone wrong?

http://forums.opensuse.org/english/get- ... ult-2.html

read this thread;

particularly, see the last post #19

Axel Koelth who is a real wireless guru said
Latest "fun" with the ralink drivers (at least latest I found out), they changed the size of the firmware images for USB-devices (8K now, 4k before and 4K is the size of images in linux-firmware git for all USB firmwares) for all of their vendor drivers.

The confusion of many different "drivers" (at least 3 for USB and 4 for PCI!) and this whole messing around with dozens of different firmware images is the main reason, I wouldn't touch this junk with a "ten foot pole", no matter how linux friendly ralink looks on its homepage.
so I guess you might be best getting another USB modem

Thank you for your reply. I've abandoned this USB device and will try to get my bulkier Belkin to work on this install of Fluxbox ( was working on LM9 ). So far I've gotten ndiswrapper & wicd installed. When I attempt to connect I get a wrong password error.... but that is another post.
