Broadcom wireless adapter issues - <Solved>

Post by Geezle »

Okay, I just got a new HP laptop and I installed Mint 10 alongside Win7 (on its own partition) but it's complaining that my wireless driver isn't available. It wants to connect to the internet to download it, but I don't have a wired connection available - only wireless here. Is there a simple way I can download it on this stupid windows machine, slap it on a USB drive and go from there?

I'll try to get my mintwifi up in a few minutes...just have to do some computer/OS swapping...

Is your wireless set for use by all users? Do you have automatic log-in on your laptop or the password protected log-in?

Password protected login.

Not sure if it's set up for all users or not though...?

This may or may not be the answer, but I have mine set this way:

Right-click on the Network Manager > choose Edit Connections > go to the Wireless tab > left-click the connection > then click the Edit button.
I have check marks in the boxes for "Connect automatically" and "Available to all users."

Maybe this will fix you up. If not, well, it was worth a shot.

My bad on that one I think. Now that I've got a connection I installed the Broadcom driver that Mint wanted to install, and that seems to have taken care of itself :)

Thanks for the help!

Glad you got it sorted out. You learned some new things in the process, as well. Remember to write this in your notebook of tweaks, tips, and tricks.

Also, it would be great if you added (Solved) to the title of this thread so it may help others.
