Wireless Firmware Missing

Postby Rocket_Reeves on Tue Dec 20, 2011 11:25 am

Hello all, I am very new to Linux (this is the first time i've used it) I've not installed Linux Mint 12 yet, but i am running it off the disc, as it said it needed an internet connection in order to install properly. So I have been fiddling around trying to get the wireless internet to work. I've tried all manner of things, But I am sure I am either doing them incorrectly, or I am doing the wrong things. The wireless card I have in my mother board is a Linksys WMP54GS which is a broadcom thing, but I have lost the specific number... I did originally think it was just a driver issue so I did the ndiswrapper thing with ordinary windows drivers and it detects the hardware and say's it's there but the top right hand signal thing says that the firmware is missing. I understand that my wireless card is a b43 legacy using card as opposed to a b43 as it is a rev 02.

That's about as much as I really know :? :|

Dumb down language would be appreciated and a full proper step by step would be fantastic!

Thank you very much all!

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

You should post the output of

Code: Select all
lspci -nnk

It was a mistake to use ndiswrapper - it will probably just make things messy now

Easy when you know how

Don't install the drivers that might be offered by the Mint system, they are proprietary and you don't need them.

Thank you (also!). Trying out Mint after staring at the horror of the latest Ubuntu release and must have tried a million complex solutions to get the wireless up and running. Put the laptop away for a couple of weeks and then today I sat down to really hammer out the problem. I found this post and 10 minutes later my laptop is connected. Thank you.

hi, all,

I have an old Compaq nx9600 laptop that has a bad hard drive. I am using Linux Mint 12 in persistent mode through a USB flash drive. It works great, but I have the same notice: Wireless: Firmware Missing

Please tell me if the above files and procedure would work for me, too. Below is the output of the mentioned command.

Thank you,
Bracca

Hello,
I am in a bit of a bind. I have an old Toshiba Satellite L15 S104 laptop that I installed and ran Ubuntu 11.10 perfectly(wifi and all). I decided to try a couple of other distros, so I tried the newest version of openSUSE in which i could not get the wifi to work. I didn't like that distro at all so I went back to Ubuntu and couldn't get the wifi to work again. The laptop sat for a while and than I decided to give Mint 12 a try and I love it.....just cannot get the wifi to work after the upgrade. I've tried everything I could find. I have installed the driver for the wireless card, but it still shows no wireless extentions. I think I might have downloaded more garbage than I need and not sure how to fix it. I am real new to linux. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.
