Very Slow Wifi

I'm having issues with very slow wifi. I've researched the problem and it comes up fairly often but my problem is a bit unique for 2 main reasons. First, when i connect to the network, everyone, not just myself, experiences slow connection. Second, I spend time at two houses. In the current house the wifi is slow, but at the other house the wifi is fine and both use the exact same wireless router. I do not have problems when booted into Windows 7 on the same machine. Please help if you can.
