How are you trying to connect? If you click the network tray icon, do you get a list ofwifi networks? If you click another one, preferably one that is unsecured, does it connect/ask for a password? What happens when you do the same for your own network?

Yes, i get the list of wifi networks. There is not an unsecured network so i can test it.
I put the password and it still keeps asking me about the password.

yeah i've got the same problem as well.

spent a while on it earlier couldn't get it to work at all.

i have slew of laptops .. all running mint v 12 - they're all ok ... but this one LAPPIE is not.

it's an old X1 (dell) - blistering little box.

i've downloaded 11 / 10 .. and now 9

and it doesn't work on any of them.

it did work a while back on ubuntu (can't remember wehich version - trust me if i could i'd be typing it now!!) - but i've left that sinking ship.

looks like this wireless chipset on mint is non functioning.
(can't use mint then can i ? )

problem solved :

went all the way back to 6 - and thought - it can't be that complex..

came back up to 11 - then found that wicd might give me some more flexibility.

installed it via wire and found the channel i was trying to talk to my router via was incorrect and could it change it via cli ?
(nope)

logged into the router - changed config.

reboot - refresh and lo and behold wicd would login.

..dl'ed 12 (wo codecs again..)

installed and got the the net np... only my old dell x1 ... made in 2005.
(wi large 6000mah battery - it'll run for 6hours..)

happy days.

You might want to give wicd a try as well. I have had to change to it from Network Manager as NM gave me nothing but trouble. Looks nice in the panel but does bugger all!

When wired-
sudo apt-get install wicd

After it is installed-
sudo apt-get remove network-manager

Make sure you are connected by ethernet cable to your router while you do this!
