inSSIDer clone/port for Linux available?

Postby framp on Tue Apr 17, 2012 6:36 pm

I'm looking for a tool I can use to see all accesspoints, the SSIDs and the used channels.

kismet and airodump-ng create a detailed ASCII list of the WiFi channels used by all APs detected by the WiFi card. There exist a nice GUI windows tool inSSIDer and I'm wondering whether there also exist some Linux clones.

iwlist provides the info and also nm. Unfortunately it's not that convenient as inSSIDer :?

Did I use the wrong search arguments to find a Linux tool in the net which offers similar functionality or is there even no Linux GUI tool available for this?

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

I am using inSSIDer successfully on LM9 thru LM11 and also LMDE, but it doesn't work with the new version 3 kernel. It appears to have a kernel dependency that has not been addressed yet. There are also a number of dependencies that are not available in the repositories for LM9, that must be independently installed before inssider will run on early LM versions. It installs and runs OK on LM versions 10-11.

Thank you very much for the link. I frankly thought metageek only offers tools for win - so I didn't enter inssider linux in my favorite searchengine

Update: Works on my Mint11 without any problems. There are still minor issues with the presentation of the data but the major inssider functionality I know from the windows version is available.
