[SOLVED] Sound settings not saved

[SOLVED] Sound settings not saved

Postby roshichris on Wed Nov 04, 2009 1:03 am

Gnome doesn't save my sound settings. I am talking here about the sounds for individual notifications (error, login etc). It doesn't matter what I change them to (Ubuntu or custom KDE or other Gnome ones), whenever I log back in they have always reverted to some KDE defaults which I really don't like.

Any ideas? Ta

Try changing to a different theme if you have others installed and available and see if the sound theme change sticks. I've never tried to adjust sounds on a per sound basis, I just have a sound pack I like and use it.

Same problem if i change sounds individually or the whole theme at the same time. The funny thing is that I did change them a few times before they got stuck on the KDE ones that I don't like. Now they won't change.

Sounds like you may need to delete a gnome configuration file (not sure which one or ones) and let it reset on the next bootup, don't really think it would help to remove the KDE sounds manually from /usr/share/sounds, probably just won't play a sound then. Maybe a more experienced Mint user can shed light on this?

Can you take a look in /usr/share/gnome-media/sounds and see if there's one file in there.

It just has one file in it - Gnome-sounds-default.xml. The other files are stored in usr/share/sounds. Where should i save new sound files then if I want to increase my choice of sounds?

Maybe deleting the KDE sound file from there will work, I'm really not sure why your having this issue .

Well I've deleted all the other files, downloaded and installed a new scheme, selected that, and now it seems to work.

So I suppose it's sorted. Although I never really found out why it was happening.
