Cant see icons and menu

Hey

Ive just installed linux mint instead of ubuntu but i got a problem. I cant see the icons on the desktop or see the menu . I use HDMI to the television because my screen doesnt work.

When i take a screenshot can i see the misssing part of the desktop. How can i get this fix??
