Can't change fonts
Synaptic and Mint Softwares (mintupdate, welcome screen, mintbackup, etc.) don't obey font rules for GTK/GTK2/GTK3 apps. I'm trying to have droid sans on them but they keep using Ubuntu Fonts. Changing fonts in Synaptic using - Settings>Preferences>Columns and Fonts is not working.
[UPDATE]Observed the following today (05 May 2012):
- Font rules are obeyed if I run the applications from terminal using sudo.
- These applications are affected by this problem (those I used & tested) - synaptic, mintupdate, mintbackup, startupmanager, welcome screen etc. (there may be more, but I don't know about them)
- When I run mintbackup using terminal without "sudo", I get this message in the terminal : Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module". The application does launch but without obeying font rules. Tested this for synaptic too! So I guess the problem (for all above apps) may be with "canberra-gtk-module" permissions, but how do I solve this?

LibreOffice 3.4.4
Serif Fonts (particularly Times New Roman) look ugly in any document I type (Application fonts look good though). This happens if I enable - Full subpixel-hinting.
*Screen resolution : 14.1" 1440x900x32*

Want Coloured Boot Splash back
I know that LM11 and above don't have coloured boot splash (has "all black"), but I want to get the old one (coloured) back.
[UPDATE]When I ran startupmanager from terminal using "sudo", it showed - Usplash Not Detected & Splashy Not Detected. Also when I tried to install splashy (hoping to enable some splash) it could not install giving the following error in terminal

dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/splashy_0.3.13-5.1ubuntu1_i386.deb (--unpack):
trying to overwrite '/etc/lsb-base-logging.sh', which is also in package lsb-base 4.0-0ubuntu16

Errors were encountered while processing:
/var/cache/apt/archives/splashy_0.3.13-5.1ubuntu1_i386.deb
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

Hope this gives someone some clue! :)

Working some more on the "Can't change Fonts" problem, I found almost a solution to the problem. It turned out that the applications mentioned above were run as root user everytime, so I changed the Font-Settings from using "Terminal as Root", WHICH WORKED.
But still, the welcome screen (mintwelcome) is using Ubuntu-Fonts. Its not really a problem, but I'm interested in knowing the reason and solution for it.
