Application 'black screen' problems!!

Hi,

I am using Linux mint 12 kde with kde 4.8 (kubuntu repos)

I recently installed the nvidia graphics driver for a dell precision 380. If I enable OpenGL in system settings -> desktop effects -> advanced tab, I starting getting weird totally black application windows in Firefox, Thundirbird and Libreoffice. If I use Xrender the problem goes away but I don't have full desktop effects.

My graphics system is nVidia Corporation NV44 [Quadro NVS 285] (rev a1), I have disabled nouveau in grub and installed nvidia reccommended drivers. I would assume this would work ok, is there a fix for this or am I missing something.
