Can't see my WinXP laptop shares from Mint KDE13[SOLVED]

Hi all.
Until a few weeks ago I was running Mint 12 Cinnamon on my main desktop PC but kept getting wierd lock-ups and problems like themes dropping out, so I clean installed Mint KDE 13 and just copied what files I needed from my old mint home directory. Everything is going really well and I'm loving KDE, but, where in cinnamon I used to be able to browse to my laptops shared folders on the network, I can't even see an option or item to click in the file browsers for the network. All I see are local files, no network at all. My Internet is running fine so I'm connected to the router and have an ip address. It was all just there in Cinnamon and I didn't need to do anything but browse to it.
Can anyone please push me in the right direction for answers for this? I'm missing my ability to share files across the network and I'm running out of time before I find I have to back track and re-install cinnamon.
Thankls in advance for any assistance.
