Linux Mint KDE freezes about half the time at the splash screen. It doesn't even start to load.

If anyone has any idea of what I can do to keep this from happening that would be great.
Thanks
Dan

metalf8801,

This sounds suspiciously like a bad cd. Did you burn it s-l-o-w, 4X no faster than 8X, and in a RAW mode? RAW modes are usually listed as SAO, TAO or DAO. Did you check the MD5 sum of the burned iso cd against the one posted on the Mint download site?

I used K3b as slow as it would burn which was 16X and it verified the burn as good. Also I have installed it with 2 different CDs to check if that was the problem. I also use 2 different downloads this last time i used the miniKDE Edition and its giving me similar problems.

try adding to the kernel options
irqpoll
acpi=no

try one then both.
there are other posts about this kind of fix.
