KDE freezes when adjusting contrast

Post by JanVrba »

Dear much more experienced users,

I have an probem with desktop environment KDE (Plasma Workplace) running on Linux Mint Maya 13 - 32 bit ver. To tell you details, it is Linux Mint Maya Mate 32 bit edition and KDE was installed from official sources (via Software Manager, download and installation were successfull). Linux and KDE were installed yesterday, no additional programs are installed.

Problem

When I try to adjust contrast, Linux freezes and I can only move with mouse pointer. Nevertheless when I click on icons, it does not work, therefore I have to turn off my notebook by removing the battery (there is no other option).

I tought that it could be a graphic card driver problem, but in xFCE environment it works without any problems (Maybe KDE uses other drivers than xFCE?). Please, does anyone know what to do with it ? Btw: reinstallation (of Linux and KDE) did not help.

Thank you very much and my apologizes for bothering you.

Fix it yet? Been a while. I'm not even close to a Linux guru, but so many of my problems have been cured by an upgrade. I mean Linux version, desktop version even changing distros. Have you tried Mint 14 by this time? I did do a clean install of the Mint 14 KDE distro, no adding or subtracting of desktops stuff. It is probably the best yet.
