i know KDE is a bit of a hog but what does everyone else get on RAM usage to desktop?

I have Akondai off, Blueman off, Mint Upload off, CUPS off, dont run any activities and im seeing 740mb on a fresh boot to the desktop
? I do use the offical amd catalyst driver which uses a lot but even if i take off 100mb 640mb also seems a lot? is this normal?

Out of just interest to compare RAM used I captured these for reference only
All have fglrx (amd/ati HD5450) installed
All are KDE, various versions.
Desktop used had intel i3, 4G Ram, AMD/ati HD5450 graphic.

1. Pardus-( debian wheezy based ), desktop with htop only =350M, firefox 20 tabs running= 620M
2. Salix ( slackware based) , desktop with htop only=415M, firefox 8 tabs running = 620M
3. Stella (centos , redhat based), desktop with htop only= 195M, firefox 10 tabs running = 365M
4. Magiea , desktop with htop only=440M, firefox 10 tabs running =509M
5. netrunner ( based on kubuntu) desktop with htop only=440M,
firefox with 24 tabs running=868M
firefox with 24 tabs plus one watching youtube video=913M-925M

It seems your 740M ( at idling?) is way on the very high scale.
I turned off effects and rebooted i got 480mb idle now. perhaps some effects cause lots of memory or even 1 specific effect may have a memory leak? not sure.

the system is very snappy though its running much faster than my main desktop pc even on a cheap quad core APU !

Yep still have a rotating cube for desktops and other effects.
Turned off Blur & Wobbly windows and still cash in at 440mb.

So if wanting some effects turn off just those two and see how it fares.

fredg
Olivia KDE Edition amd64 (build #201306282110) 78.33% tested
fredg
Olivia KDE Edition i386 (build #201306282026) 88.33% tested

Both builds (32 and 64bit) have been rejected. A new ISO will have to be built and tested before we get a release. Personally, I doubt we will get a final release before next week.

I hope you're right, next week would be good. Does anyone know what's causing the delays in the KDE release? A little progress update by those close to the KDE project might be nice to let everyone know where things stand.

it seems (from the last changelog) that are essentially minor adjustments
Changelog :

- Fix ubiquity to use correct lsb information "LinuxMint -> Linux Mint"

- Slideshow : KDE logo is now a tranparent PNG

- Add delete permanently into dolphin menu

- Plymouth text theme shows "Linux Mint 15"

Looking at the community iso pages, it looks like there was issues with apt sources and mintupdate. I would rather have a stable build than one with these issues being let into the wild. We don't want new users having issues with the build.

Things are a happening. We are now upto 93.3 and 95% on testing and all that needs to be tested is the Intel, ATI and nVidia graphics.

Both versions are now listed as Approved for Stable Release. Hopefully later today we might have release.

A big thank you to all of the testers and Fredq for all their hard work.

Ok, the wait is near over. It usually takes a day or two to load the servers, so by Saturday we might get the final release. A big thank you to all who worked on getting KDE ready.

Good news!

Pity it's still impossible to use the locale installation GUI but I guess it's not enough of a deal-breaker to postpone the release.

Thanks for the link! But are you sure those are Final which where just released.
Or RC's released a couple of weeks ago?

They don't make it clear as not listed as Final or RC's and posted 3 days ago.

I just used the link given, downloaded the ISO, checked the MD5 checksum, burned it to disk with verification, booted .......and it froze up like a shy boy asking a cheerleader for a date! I doubt this is the stable release, regardless of what's posted.
