When I run Mint Update,it is showing updates that relate to Gnome. Are there KDE counterparts that I should be seeing? Should I ignore these, or apply them?

I attached a picture.

Mint Update will only show updates to packages that you already have installed. The fact that they show means that you already have older versions of those very packages.

Whether or not you SHOULD apply every possible update package is a seperate subject. My laptop's install of Elyssa is open to Hardy Proposed and Unstable and by default I install everything that comes down the pipe, for good or for bad. I've had WEEKS where wireless is borked. And then everything will work fine, without explanation. I don't recommend that you do this. Far safer for you to adopt the practice of only installing level 1-2 updates by default, and level 3 only as necessary. Thats exactly how I maintain "production" Mint machines for my userbase.

Is it possible that some Gnome stuff made it into the KDE version of Mint? Since these files are updates to Gnom stuff, is it safe to remove the original packages?

Possible? Thats exactly what DID happen. Some gnome stuff didn't "make it into" the KDE; rather, the KDE is not and never was intended to be "pure". Some libs, xml for example, don't have a ready replacement. Scrub those libs at your own risk. Do you happen to know what they might be dependencies for?

You should either ignore the updates until you decide you really need them (change your mintupdate prefs to uncheck lvl3), or apply them and get it over with. Remove the original packages? I don't recommend it.

I think I will just apply them. Will this go away when the KDE version of mint starts using the Kubuntu repos? Thanks for your suggestions.

Don't count on it. Kubuntu is KDE bolted on Ubuntu.

Both are kind of a "Frankenstein" distro. A little of this & a little of that. But...if you want KDE, they work pretty darned good.

I'm not familiar with any pure KDE-only zero-gnome distros that I consider on par with Mint's usability and reliability. Someone will surely correct me.
