In the menus click on System Settings then System Administration then KDM Theme Manager. Click on Administrator Mode and type in your password. Then you can change to the KDM theme you want.

Do you mean the Administrator Mode is not working for you? Or do you mean it is working for you?

This question is in the Portuguese Forum

KDE CE 5 RC1 Elyssa (mine)

i confirm as adminstrador mode is not working for me too. Really i don't want to change my Kdm theme but my other friend wants to know how...

I found this to fix the problem but it doesn't work even - Linux Mint forum search (kdm)

Terminal
sudo /etc/init.d/kdm restart - system hangs crashes (message shows something about Arch) and needs to be restarted manually.

Any response would be nice
Thanks in advance

Roberto

Ok, well the only way I know to change the KDM theme is with the KDM Theme Manager or StartUp-Manger. Both of those should work but if they don't I don't know what else would. May be some one else here can help you.

Also you could try posting at the Ubuntu Forum or look at the Ubuntu Documentation https://help.ubuntu.com/community/CustomizeKubuntu#KDM Theme

Good luck.

Thanks LinuxForever for your reply

The link above refers to instructions we both have done before as administrator mode. Kdm theme manager installed does not work.

I enable cathbard repo (sources.list) - download his kdm - ksplash theme buntuleaves .deb. installed it . ok the theme appears on
/usr/share/apps/kdm/themes/elyssa and it is enable for kdm theme manager. Tried out again. Really it does not work. Boo Elyssa Kdm
(default) theme seems to be locked and we can't replace it for another one.. I think we need a root account to solve this problem.
I will continue work on it but after installing the final KDE CE 5 Elyssa final edition next week. But for me Kdm theme manager has a bug.

Cheers
Roberto

hi all.
i have this problem too. and i make sth like this:
etc: my new theme's name is "earth".i install in using kdm theme manager. and remove all themes except "earth" from kdm theme manager. and then on konsele
$sudo konqueror /usr/share/apps/kdm/themes
passwd:

there is only my theme earth.
and kdm standart theme is "elyssa". i rename "earth" to "elyssa".so it just worked fine;)

It's true, kdm is broken. A workaround is editing by hand /etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc

There look for the line Theme=/usr/share/apps/kdm/themes/elyssa and change elyssa to whatever you want from /usr/share/apps/kdm/themes/

What is worse is that the custom and default sessions don't work. Custom doesn't even appear in the «session type» list of choices of kdm. I wonder if this is a compilation problem, because I've been through the kdm handbook and it says that the only way of hiding the magic sessions is by creating a custom.desktop file with the attribute hidden, but there isn't such a file in my system.
