Guest User Account
Hey guys, I created a Guest Account. I checked admin when I created it so that I would be able to share files between users, now, I want to change it so that the guest cannot access my Personal files. I tried a few things but did not work. Please no terminal stuff if it can be done with gui. I don't think it should be difficult but unfamiliar with the proceedure.
I also don't even know how I created the guest account now? I went into System Settings but don't see anywhere to create an account now. I should have taken notes, seems quite easy in Mate and Cinnamon. I see Account Details but no where to create another account if needed.
Thanks pcpunk

Re: Guest User Account
Guest + admin is very bad idea.
There are better ways to "share" directories/files.

I think he was trying to ask you what those less-unwise methods are (without actually asking you - for whatever reason ), lol.Habitual wrote:I have said it, not trying to say anything.

Re: Guest User Account
Excluding the OP, does anyone disagree with my estimate that it is a bad idea?

Habitual +1
A guest account is meant for use by guests. You don't want to give them administrator permissions on your system, because then they can (knowingly or unknowingly) mess up your system irreparably. You could end up with a FUBAR system. Plus your guest now has unlimited access to all of your personal data.
It kind of defeats the purpose of a guest account, to grant it those permissions.
You can create a safe harmless guest account like this:

I apologize for my brevity in not supplying you with tangible answers for your issue.
It is not personal, I have just been having a health issue this week.

Re: Guest User Account
I set up a Share folder for use by both Guest and Owner (me). The guest has their own folders, but other than that, can't rwx any of my personal files. The "Share" folder is the only cross-over folder I have.Habitual wrote:Excluding the OP, does anyone disagree with my estimate that it is a bad idea?

Re: Guest User Account
I would think you'd want group access to share folders, not guest. Maybe you do?

Re: Guest User Account
Thanks for the help guys, I was not trying to Share with Guest Account it was just an experiment and wanted to change it back. Now I see that a Share Folder or something to that effect is the way to go. I deleted the Guest Account now. If I need another I will know more about what to do now. Would like to try it out again and just create the Share Folder. Pjtor's directions were not good for me but I like his work, and, he has helped me many times before. I refer to your site often Pjtor! love it.pcpunk wrote:Hey guys, I created a Guest Account.
