this is a KDE related problem.
I have seen posts to fix this by uninstalling KDM and installing GDM or compleatley reinstalling KDM.
The problem is probabbly due to the repo being used for updates.
It is best to enable the KDE4 experimental ppa repo and then do an update and upgrade using your favorite tool.
