KDE 4.2, embedded Firefox media players in VM: arrgh !

Hello
Have installed Mint7KDE4.2 ( konq>help>version) in VMWare Workstation 6.5 for run through..
Install all good, but, default media players ; GMplayerand flash in Firefox both show choppy video, sound choppy..video play back runs at high speed. Sound variable.
Vanilla install: fully updated with defaults in synaptic.
Had the same issue with the Live CD prior to installation.
Gnome edition in 'same' VM; no issue
AM not a techy type but can follow instructions to try any fixes: be gentle...
Bet there is some config setting I'm missing.
As an aside how do i change the default firefox media player to mplayer ?
- I have no idea as to how relevant this may be, but, Interestingly latest releases of PCLOS have same slightly confusing issue ( mplayer there) with KDE ( older KDE releases work fine ) , Gnome release with gmplayer going fine.
I need MS for some biz database/accounts apps, but spend all my home time in *nix these days.
Have been looking forwards to this release for some time.
Any interest ?,
regards
