File sharing glitch

Post by chiefjim »

Installed M7 KDE on my laptop and am quite impressed. Sharing files with my home network is a challenge.

I have two desktops on the network. Both are KDE3.5 one using Samba3.2.5 the other 3.0.33. These have been setup for sometime and known to work well.

Each desktop can see the laptop and mount shares. The laptop sees each of the desktops but fails to even identify the available shares.

Is this one of those KDE4 items still in the problem phase?

Not sure but one thing you could do is use NFS, which I find to be easier than Samba, if you are only sharing folders and files between Linux computers. Have a look here.

I use this across my desktop, running KDE, and my notebook running XFCE. Works great.

Hm you could also try the openssh-server, go to dolphin and move files with fish://[IP-Adresse of the ssh-server]
