update to KDE 4.5.1

Postby DaveL on Fri Sep 24, 2010 5:46 pm

I have installed kde full on Isadora on my desktop and laptop a while ago and it wass fairly painless to update to KDE 4.5.1. on my desktop. I only had to add the line "http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/backports/ubuntu lucid main" to other softwate in Software Sources or kPackageKi and do an update. I tried to do the same on my laptop (HP 7630b), but neither kde nor gnome would allow me to add a respository source.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks
Dave

In Linux Mint KDE, to enable the upstream updates from Kubuntu you may, just in this instance, try adding the backport and possibly beta repositories via the command line. When adding repositories or just wanting to view my sources from the Konsole, I use the following command:

Code: Select all
sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list

Nano is a good command line text editor. Then, just follow the guide from the link above. This way, if there are problems adding or updating the sources from your repositories, they will show up in the Konsole terminal. You can then let us know what happens from there.
They'll all look at me and say,
Hey look at him! I'll never live that way.
But that's okay -
They're just afraid to change.
