(SOLVED) some ugly looking applcations in kde4

Postby fresh_tea on Wed Feb 02, 2011 5:29 am

Hello.

I'm slowly starting to like KDE4 and I want to give it a try...
However, for some reasons, there are some applications (like Firefox, Synaptic or Image Viewer - GNOME) which simply look horrible.

For example, my Firefox in KDE4 looks like in the attachment. And so ugly are other applications mentioned before.

Anyone knows how to fix it?
I tried to install gtk themes or change settings in KDE, but nothing helped...
In Gnome, everything looks fine.

Thanks a lot :D

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

As for Firefox, you could buy to it for free a new coat or a T-shirt, at least, IMHO... :D

Thank you Elisa for reply!

It helped to solve my problem with Firefox.
However, do you know (or someone else how to change look of some other supposedly GTK applications like Synaptic? It looks really ugly, ugly as a screeshot of Firefox I posted... I'm really trying everything (installing gtk engines, qt engines, kubuntu packages, changing qt settings) but nothing works :(

Thank you!

Hello everybody!

I solved the problem, so it will be useful for others:

As for other applications, it is sufficient to change Qt3 or Qt4 settings. As for SMPlayer for example, it is necessary to change Interface settings in settings.

But as for Synaptic, to make it look better, follow this tutorial:

What worked for me was the gtk-chtheme utility.
