Mint 12 KDE RC or main edition + KDE?

Postby rhallen on Sun Jan 15, 2012 8:04 am

Hi all,

After much testing of various distros, I seem to be settling on Mint 12 as the one I will use on a daily basis. However, I find that I prefer KDE over Gnome. I saw yesterday that there is now an RC for Mint 12 KDE. What would be the advantage of a proper KDE edition over simply installing KDE in the main edition?

All I can think of is that there could be some overhead with having the Gnome components installed, but could Gnome not be removed if I wanted?

Yes, sure. If you are comfortable with that, go ahead and do it like that. Might need some crowbarring to get all the non-KDE out, and all the KDE stuff in (like default applications for various tasks being the KDE variant). Or you could wait till LM 12 KDE final is released, have it all done for you
