Update broke display background
I've just installed Mint 13 XFCE and applied level 1 and 2 updates using update manager. Once complete my screen is black and I can't change it, can't see any icons either. Is there a way this can be fixed ?

Try
clicking 'Alt+F2' if can get a Application Finder dialog. if can try running 'xfwm' and maybe 'xfdesktop' then resave session.
Maybe

Re: Update broke display background
thanks for your response, sadly neither of your suggestions did anything !!! I have since reinstalled Mint 13 XFCE on the same machine but not dared to load any updates other than the first one which updated MintUpdater. It would be nice to know if it was a specific update that broke it so I may ignore in the future. Unfortunately this machine isn't my own so I can't spend much time backing up, testing, breaking, restoring to figure it all out.
Re: Update broke display background
worth a try
if can, try uninstalling nautilus and nautilus-data ect. watch what else leaves also (so can find suitable replacements).
Nautilus has a habit of taking over things (especially desktop & WM) when ran. A update may be triggering it, once ran likes to keep running and take on more responsibilities ( )
I think Maya-Xfce doesn't have nautilus but does still have nautilus-data that "helps it have a foot in door'
had no nautilus but something pulled it in after a update (uninstalled 'nautilus-data on reinstall updated 'no nautilus")

P.S. that's why like installing stuff with synaptic (list dependencies easier to read) mints software-manager does same (& more) but the list is a block of text.
