[Solved] How can I change mintMenu to have a icon on dark background?

Post by RytronII »

Hi.

How can I change the mintMenu to have just an icon on a dark background?

I added a dark theme and it now looks like so [image attached]. I changed the icon but the white/grey background remains.

Thanks.

Try this:
Right-click mintMenu button > Preferences > Theme
Click down arrow next to Theme and change from the default "Desktop theme" to your theme.
Close box.

I had to logout/in because the Update Manager icon and the Network Manager icon changed to a white background,
but after logging out/in, it was same dark background as the rest of the panel.

This worked for me in Mint 13 xfce using Xfce-dusk theme.

I just tried it with another dark theme - it didn't work at first as it did for Xfce-dusk.
I had to copy the extracted folder to /usr/share/themes (as root) for it to show up in the mintMenu > Preferences > Theme list.
(Before I just copied the extracted theme folder to /home/username/.themes)

Logged out/in - then it worked.
This was Shiki-Midnight-Brave theme.

Could you upload the Shiki-Midnight-Brave theme here in a .7z file?

Thank you caribriz.

It shows up in themes no problem. The mintMenu icon remains the same though. I may go back to Mint-x. :?

Curious it doesn't work for you.

What happens if you (temporarily) change the mintMenu icon to the same as mine:
Right-click mintMenu > Preferences > Main Button change Button icon to:
/usr/share/linuxmint/common/artwork/logos/24.png ... then close box and logout/in?

Does the icon's background change to the dark background then?
Edit - just tried it with your icon: /usr/share/xfcemint/visualisation-logo.png
dark background visualisation-logo.png
Another idea - a stab in the dark  -
In the mintMenu > Preferences > Theme screen .... is "Use custom colors" unchecked?
