Xscreensaver doesn't display Pictures.

Hi, all.

My xscreensaver installation doesn't display photos from the directory in my /home. I have checked that it's pointing at the correct directory, and that seems fine. When a screensaver starts (such as Carousel), I just get blank boxes that say 'untitled.jpg'. If I install Mate, or another desktop environment, the corresponding screensaver works absolutely fine, but I just can't work this niggling problem out.

Anyone experienced this?
