Apt-get and software manager

Ok so I have installed nadia 2 times and both times when i try to install software up to a certain point the repos get corrupted within specifically this file : /var/lib/apt/lists/archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_quantal_main_i18n_Translation-en%5fUS
I tried to remove three times and used a bunch of commands to fix it. finally I had to use gedit and erase the file internally and save the file as blank in order to get it back to working. Is anyone else having this problem?

I am on a toshiba satellite c650-u10 here is the output from the terminal as #su

This looks like a problem that has been reported quite often in this forum since December 2012 (type "linuxmint update problem" in the search box). Basically, the update server seems to be busy. You can try changing your download mirror (Menu, Settings, Software Sources). By default, "main server" should be selected. Try selecting a server that is closer to your geographical location and see if it works. Had the same problem a couple of weeks ago, and switching to the canadian mirror solved it.

some problem here! Fresh install of Mint 13 Cinnamon in VMware. but can not do "apt-get update" and "apt-get upgrade" for the above mentioned reason.
The removed archives are already commented out.

In mint 14, in software sources if you select:
downolad from > other
you can click a button to scan for the best server and the quickest one nearest you should be found.
