Home networking newbie

Post by tan159753 »

I am a newbie to linux and have 2 machines both dualbooting Mint 13 XFCE and Windows XP.

How do i setup a home network sharing files where mint is running on both computers? If 1 is running xp and the other mint I can share files from linux to xp no problem but how do i set it up if both computers are running linux? Do I have to install Samba or is some sort of linux to linux networking already supported in XFCE?

Also how do you select a folder to share in Mint 13 XFCE. I'm sure it's all trivial stuff but cant find a decent guide. All guides are for MATE or CINNAMON versions.

Learn SSH, or setup a network share. If you aren't logged in to one computer, you should be able to login via SSH and copy files that way.

Well, I do not think so...at least I always follow altair4's How-To guide here

and for your case with mint xfce, usually mint already had samba installed, and you have one simple way to do this in xfce with thunar, the How- To is inside the main link above, here I repeat the link specifically on thunar

HowTo: Create Samba Shares Directly from Thunar
