Preferably, I'd like a subte marker that something happen, such as the icon turning a different color. Still, I'd take no warning at all over flashing icons any day.

edit: Problem solved. The panel flashing itself can't be disabled in the Xfce options, but it can be done in applications. Only tricky one is Skype. Essentially you have to use the /alertsoff command in every chat window to prevent this behavior. Not an ideal situation but those of us using Linux Skype are probably used to less then ideal.
