A long time ago, during my Slackware days, there was a tool to display a text files contents on the Desktop. Is there something similar for LM?
Thanks in advance!

Re: Linux Mint 15 XFCE Text File on the Desktop?
It's not an XFCE-specific solution, but some people use Conky to do that (among other things). I don't use Conky, so I cannot personally help, but here are some links that might help:
There are probably other ways to do it, and the method that is best for your situation probably depends on what, exactly, you are trying to do. IOW, do you wish to display the text from a file which never changes, one that is - or may be - changed on a regular schedule, that you wish your system to check at the regularly-scheduled time and "refresh the desktop" if said text has changed, or is it a file that may change at any time and with no notice, that you need to be updated "live?"
It might also make a difference whether the file is small and therefore can be displayed in its entirety without scrolling or if it is larger and would require some means of scrolling (and possibly controlling the rate of scrolling).

Thanks! I just stumbled into Conky yesterday, and for my needs, it is overkill, with all of the configuration, but it will certainly work.
Currently, I just edit my wallpaper and add a few lines of text, to show important measurements (used for a garage/project computer, really simple!). However, it's just... ugly. Having Conky overlay those lines placed in a text file looks a lot better and I won't need to tap its potential (no scrolling should be needed, no refreshing as the file doesn't change, etc.).
Thanks again for the links though. I hadn't seen some of them yet
