Thank you for reply - I have noticed connection error (in this app) when I try this on live CD of Mint 6 - but this was after posting here.

I'm not using mint update, because it do not have "hold" option. New distros, gives newer software which very often are more resource eating. Now I'm using some software from Hardy on Jaunty, becouse my hardware is old.

Sorry but this is not the place for posting bugs on your mess of updating before the update notes are even released.
This is the Updates on the Official version of Linux Mint 7 XFCE CE.
In fact I just added most of the packages to the Community Repo for Linux Mint 7 XFCE CE.
So anything you report wouldn't have anything to do with this release.

The Default service is down but mintUpload still works.
I would purge any mintUpload packages and reinstall mintUpload.

Code: Select all

apt remove --purge mintupload*

Code: Select all

apt install mintupload thunar-custom-actions-xfce mint-meta-xfce

@MerlWiz, What if I can provide you a 64bit machine? Would you be interested in building a 64bit version? I am no expert, but am willing to help in anyway possible...... Please let me know

I would simply question why anyone with a fancy 64bit machine would need to use a slimmed down xfce version of Mint when the Gnome or KDE versions would run incredibly well? With a 64 bit machine and all the space and power you have why not just load xfce onto Gloria and use that desktop when you feel like it?
@lagagnon
fancy 64bit....lol
Well its more a matter of preference and choice. I simply perfer xfce. Yes I have mint in gnome and sidux with kde4 installed on this laptop, but I think xfce is the right balance of features and resources..... nonetheless loading xfce after the fact is really less than ideal.

If you mean give me a machine to work on then I could easily make it.
If you mean you'll do the work then it's your time and I could try to help as much as possible.
Either way I'll have to ask clem what he thinks about releasing a 64bit version of XFCE CE.
Once you clarify, we can go from there.

Good news on the release.
There is one known bug and possibly a second.(Exploder tests)
I'll have to look into the 2nd possible one 1st.
I'll try to fix these tonight and hopefully upload what will become the Release Candidate. :D
If exploder passes the next dev build then it'll be tested by clem.
Then if he doesn't find any bugs or needed changes, he'll decide when to release it.

digitallysick wrote:What is normally involved in building a 64bit mint xfce os? Do you just take the base ubuntu , add a few repos and xfce + Themes? maybe You could just create a user script that would auto get the packages needed and build the xfce on a minimal 64bit install.

Im using 64bit mint, with xfce, although I still have most of the gnome packages, not sure what to remove or keep since they have dependencies.

maybe a script to build xfce4 from source, and add packages and then remove gnome packages would be easy enough?
You would have to start from Xubuntu 64bit.
I could have the packages ready to compile on the 64bit and then upload the packages.
Then you would only have to remove xubuntu-default-settings and install the meta package.
Though I couldn't test this.

I can't wait to see these excellent changes in XFCE 4.6 to appear in Mint XFCE 7.

Ok I just uploaded a new ISO, for exploder to test.
Fixed the only bug I could reproduce.
Removed mintInstall entry from Main menu and replaced it with Software Manager.(with all 39 translations from mintMenu)
The bug i couldn't reproduce was the dvd not automatically playing in Virtualbox.
For me it worked just fine in Virtualbox with the drive, but i didn't test using an iso.(don't have any dvd's in iso formats)

Sorry about all the delays, this release has taken way to long in my opinion.

Clem has started testing the iso.
He has some changes he wants done and the KDE CE has been released.
Most of the changes should be easy to do.
I won't get to work on them until the Tuesday.(7th for me)
I should have an iso done that night or the next day.

I have uploaded a new test iso for the dev team.
I think this one will pass all the tests and be released as the RC.

Not sure.
He has to read the notification that it needs his approval.
Then he has to find time to download and test.
Once he approves it's pushed to the mirrors.
It takes about 2 days for the all mirrors to get it.
Then Clem has to post the announcement that the Release Candidate is ready for testing.
