Re: Buy Merlwiz A New Computer
That is a good case. My step-dad has the exact same case and he seems real happy with it. I have the same burner, it's quiet and fast. Looks like you are off to a real good start on your new pc.
Re: Buy Merlwiz A New Computer
I'm glad you went with the Antec. I think you'll be happy with it.
Re: Buy Merlwiz A New Computer
Just donated to the cause! Thanks for all of your hard work, Merlwiz!
Re: Buy Merlwiz A New Computer
Ok I couldn't find a better motherboard so I have bought this one.
Motherboard(Reviews say it works with linux): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813131603
Also bought this RAM best.(timing for the price)
Memory(4GB DDR3 1333 Timing 7-7-7-21): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820231276
Cost(with shipping):$194.98
Total spent: $331.95
With this new build I should have more time to work.
1st time with a case that has the power supply at the bottom.

Re: Buy Merlwiz A New Computer
Which PS did you get? The antec one or the OCZ one?
You might need
to get a 12v extension cable, maybe not depending on the mb.

I don't think I can word it better.

As of next Wednesday I'll be completely shutting off donations for this particular purpose, closing the Paypal account, and sending Merlwiz a cashier's check for the total amount of the donations received via Paypal and by Mail.
I would very much like to thank everyone who donated to this cause. Anyone wishing to further support this should make their donations directly to Linux Mint. Again thanks.

Re: Buy Merlwiz A New Computer
For the CPU, have you considered an Athlon II X4? Not sure about the pricing over there, but they're about the same as the Phenom II X2s where i am. Should blow it away in everything bar gaming, where they're about on par.

Re: Buy Merlwiz A New Computer
My wife just had surgery so the update was delayed.
I added more pics here http://www.flickr.com/photos/31132934@N ... 758136706/
This pc is so quiet compared to my old one it's unbelievable.
The old one sounds like a tornado compared to the new one.
Thanks to all those who donated.

Glad you have it finished. I noticed that 5.9 rating in Windows 7. That's as good as it gets. Congrats on building a superior machine.

Re: Buy Merlwiz A New Computer
7.9 may be tops, but your talking to someone who has never had a system that scored higher than 3.9, so 5.9 looks pretty good.
Re: Buy Merlwiz A New Computer
