Correlation wierd things happening and screenrecording

Has anyone noticed that when ever they're trying to make a helpful linux mint screen cast, the trey icon disapears, or they get logged out mysteriously? I've been incredibly frustrated over the last couple hours trying to get some content recorded and it seems like every other segment gets lost, each time for a new reason
