I was reflecting again on the rise of Linux and the failure of os/2
I.P. might like this article
Half an operating system: The triumph and tragedy of OS/2
reflecting on this, as well as the rise of LibreOffice and Google Docs and thinking back on Torvalds wonderful book _Just for Fun_ I found myself wondering if closed systems would ever be viable in a market with mature open source software. closed systems have a bad habit of trying to close out their competition which may easily be their fatal mistake
other interesting reading is this the white flag over redmond?
