Most of the changes will be under the hood and some GUI changes.

They demoed Windows 7 on a netbook.

Windows 7 looks pretty slick, but I'm not so sure about the taskbar - it looks like they're after Mac OS X's thunder with its dock, but I don't think it suits Windows all that much. I guess it's just the change from black to glass; I preferred the black, actually.

I don't like Windows, but I do hope Win7 is a hit. I have a strong belief that MS learned from previous mistakes, as well as not needing to do a UTH overhaul again, that it will be a smashing success.

And, on a sidenote, the taskbar looks like KDE's...

Phosgene wrote:What I will never understand is Microsoft's constant need to change things that do not need changing, all throughout their history they've made a number of pointless changes (like changing 'search' to 'find' or vice versa). But in the case of Vista they unnecessarily changed their winning formulae. The whole layout of windows was actually very good even if it was hampered by its poor OS. If Vista didn't change the classic menu and the classic layout and just made things more glossy plus the features, they wouldn't be in this mess.
What mess?
Vista isn't slower than XP Pro on my 4 year old machine.
Window 7 Pre-beta does run faster than Vista on my machine though. :)
I like the new look and the only thing i didn't like was the Control panel layout.
You can change that and I did.

WoW!
They finally realized that a LOT of people want to glance at the clock and see the date at the same time!
Now that is a REAL WoW-factor for me!

Bin, Trash, Garbage can, whatever you call it... Placed at top left.

The majority of us start to view a page or desktop or so on, by glancing at the centre then going top-left to begin reading. First thing you see is a trash can and as any Feng Shui expert will tell you, that's no good. ;)

Top-left (or right for those few languages that read R-L) should be the most important stuff.

BTW, anybody is really using the trash ? I've been using Ctrl+Del so much that it has become an habit for me...

When I decide to trash, I trash, I don't understand why people would want to delete then recover ?
