SP3 designed to crash XP and force VIsta upgrade?

Postby Crimson_Wake on Tue Dec 16, 2008 9:46 pm

While I'm no conspiracy theorist, I make more money fixing XP and Vista computers these days than ever before. I reformat Vista machines with XP Pro SP2 (minus all the BS that is usally included). I also have a lot of work from SP3 crashing machines left and right. This got me thinking.

Earlier this year M$ announced they will no longer support XP soon, and they are really pushing Vista with the Mojave Experiment. Today, in fact, it was released that there's a HUGE security hole in IE 5-8...to which M$ advises not to switch browsers an to sit tight as they fix it. It just seems like M$ released SP3 to make it seem like the 'new security features necessary to protect yourself' are too powerful for XP to handle, thus forcing a Vista upgrade.

So, do you think SP3 was released to crash XP on purpose?

I doubt it, they'd lose a lot of customers, and demand for vista wouldn't grow. I personally feel they're in a bit of a dilemma. They want to get rid of old XP, but vista's a flop and they want to get rid of that as well. Roll on Windows 3.11!
Linux Mint 8 RC1 = Nice
'apt install' can be used on Linux Mint as a shortcut for 'sudo apt-get install'. 'apt x' can be used for various other apt commands as well.
When a problem is solved, please add [SOLVED] to your thread title.

SP3 didn't seem to crash for me; seeing as though it's just an amalgamation of all updates since SP2, I'd find it hard to believe it's a conspiracy of any sort.
