This may cause some heartburn. I realized I have been doing that with Ubuntu and then Mint when I switched to Mint. Though I am retired on fixed income I have come to realize I can contribute a little every so often.
I do not like working under the “hood” so I am not much help there but can support a little financially.

Just spreading the word helps. Not everyone can afford to contribute financially. I have had one 40 hour week at work this year and my hours change from day to day.... Things are tough right now.

There are many ways to contribute other than money. Helping in the forums or IRC, doing translations, bug testing and reporting, artwork, generating and proof reading documentation, helping maintain the repository, and it goes on and on. Just doing good PR and educating potential new users to the realities of Linux is a valuable service to the project. :-)
