Thanks for the welcome :) I've had another long session today, and just installed my first app that wasn't in a package manager. Not sure how comfortable I am with the process yet though. It failed to make a Deb package, and I have no clue how to fix that!

Still, I'm very happy with the experience so far :D

Hi!

I'm new to Mint but loving it alot! I have too many M$ games to dump windows completely but the stranglehold is no longer there and I may yet figure out how to Wine all the M$ games I have.

I've already dumped MSN Chat for Pidgon and will soon dump M$ Office for Open Office since I love these programs in Mint.

I'm a newly-Minted user. I started, like many newbies do, with Ubuntu, but I was too interested in the variety of the Linux world. In restaurants, I always feel like I owe it to myself to try lots of things on the menu so I don't miss out on anything good. The same is true for the Linux world, barring some of the advanced distros which I probably couldn't handle (yet). I distro-hopped for a while, trying out Mandriva (didn't last long - I like some dignity in my OS, and Mandriva reminded me of kindergarten, what with the big golden stars and all), Ubuntu, Debian, and PCLinuxOS. But I really like the look and feel of Mint, plus I think it has some very innovative features which make it highly attractive. I can be quite meticulous about the look and feel of my OS, and I think Mint has the most simple, efficient, and logical GUI layout of any distribution I've tried so far. I'm happy to call myself a Mint user. Unfortunately I can't dump Windows entirely, mostly because I need MS Office for a couple of specialized reasons, but when I'm not using Office I'm running Mint. (I just hope OpenOffice eventually catches up to MS Office!)

Thanks to the Mint team for all their hard work! I'm happy to count myself among the "Minty masses."

Welcome Draceena.
Games. That's what Windows are only good for.

Welcome Erkenntnis,
That's a pretty good description of Mint Daryna. I too dual-boot Windows but use them only for work outside the web.
So happy I stopped hunting for viruses :D

Cheers to both,
npap

A BIG WELCOME TO ALL 7009 MEMBERS IN THE MINT FORUMS.

Since It is hard to follow the growth of the Mint community, this post will not be continued. So we extend a warm welcome to all the new members that will be joining the forums in the future.
Accept my personal appreciation for making Mint your favorite distribution.

This post has been started by my own initiative as a personal attempt to help Linux Mint grow.
I hope I have contributed to the cause in my own way :D .

THANKS TO ALL!
