Linux User # (insert your number here)

I see this every now and then on Linux forums, and I wonder, what's it mean? Is there a place you can be registered as a user and receive some number? Is there a benefit, other than seeming official and maybe sometimes a bit cooler? Do they enter you in a sweepstakes or something? What do you get if you win?

Did I miss something when I first started using Puppy almost two years ago? I never got a number. Why can't I have a number?

(Don't worry; if they gave them out automatically, I would whine about that, too.)

(Hear the music? "I feel like a number..duh, duh, duh, Duh..Feel like a number!..duh, duh, duh....)

Does that mean, that there are 497,027 registered Linux users ahead of you? :(

I had better hurry up and get registered ... before all the good numbers are gone. :P
